Lazarus Awakening-Bible Study

When I heard Joanna Weaver was writing another book I knew I wanted to read it.  I’m a big fan of her book “Having a Mary heart in a Martha world” and I was certain this book would speak to me as well.  I had no idea how the timing of the review would line up so perfectly with my current situation.

This last year of ministry has been a bit more stressful than normal.  It is after all a general council year.  As we work to grow Project Ignite Light to reach children of abuse across the country my desire to know and understand God’s plan for the ministry and myself was growing as well.  The more I prayed to hear from the Lord the more I noticed his silence. I began to question what was in my life that would keep the Lord distant.    My mind began to focus less on who God is and more on why I must be the problem.  “He loves me, He loves me not” as Joanna so brilliantly communicated had become my view of my relationship with God.

“What do we do when God doesn’t come through the way we thought he would. “What should we feel when what is dearest to our hearts is suddenly snatched away? How do we reconcile the love of God with the disappointments we face in life?” These hard to answer questions are discussed in Lazarus Awakening as well as helping us “find your place in the heart of God”.

This book paired with the study guide allowed me to slow down and really apply what I was reading.   The words I was reading were suddenly taking hold through the work Joanna encouraged.  The DVD included in the study made this story that more real! Watching Joanna share her heart and insights made it feel as if I was on an adventure with one of my closest girlfriends! The combination of the three put together really did speak life and encouragement to my heart and I can’t wait to share it with my friends this fall in small group setting! This is a perfect study for women to come together to encourage, challenge and pray as they find their place in the heart of God!

This looks like a great study for my group at church, but also something I can appreciate independently as I can’t always make it to the group setting. This seems like an engaging approach that I could relate with. I am looking for ways to improve my prayer life and bring me closer to God!

Thank you for sharing about Joanna Weaver’s new book, #Lazarus Awakening. I really like the conversational nature of Joanna’s video. I, too, had the impression I was walking along with Joanna as she shared about the calling she felt as she visited Israel to share Lazarus’ story.
What beautiful scenery! I am so excited about sharing this with the Ladies Bible Study Leader at our church.
